2007 season update

(Posted On Wed 7 February, 2007)

Many thanks for playing for the club last season. We hope you enjoyed the promotion season as much as we did and are raring to go for 2007 (only 10 weeks to go to the start of the season).

We want all of you to get involved in the club and play as much cricket as possible. Winter nets have already started at Percy Main CC, and it would be great to see you all in the coming weeks of pre-season and during the campaign itself.

Please consider the following for the season ahead:-

A full calendar of training and practice at the Percy Main CC nets (on the following dates 11/2, 12/2, 18/2, 19/2, Fri 23/2 (no Sun net), 26/2, 4/3, 5/3, 11/3, 12/3, 18/3, 19/3, 25/3, 26/3, 1/4, 2/4, 8/4, 9/4, 15/4 and 16/4)

Do you know anyone in your department, team or office who would be interested in playing for the club? It doesn't matter what their standard is. If so, pass on the details to cricket@sage.com and we will get in touch with them. Numbers were at an all time high last season, however, its vital that we keep attracting new players every season. Notices for new players will be on Insider next week.

Midweek games in division three - at least 15 matches during the season

Weekend games - at least 8 weekend games

A cricket tour to the smoke. The dates are already set (Thursday 6th September to Sunday 9th September) so get them in your diary now. Thoughts are fly to Stanstead, express into London, stay at a four star hotel, take in the one day international at Lords (England v India), take in a race meeting, thrash some southerners in a 40 over game……………..and obviously plenty of culture as well.

A full social event calendar including a night at Brough Park Dogs in March, Hexham races and curry train in May and the Sage CC Golf Competition in June. Finalised and confirmed dates will be circulated nearer the time.

Special offers for cricket club members - check the website for a range of SCC cricket clothing supplied by Edge. All rates quoted are special prices negotiated on behalf of SCC. This season contact Edge directly yourself, to place your order.

Please check your kit bags for SCC equipment that belongs to the club. If you find any please contact cricket@sage.com for it to be collected.

…..and finally, please visit our website to keep up to date with the latest news (http://www.midweekcricket.com/news.asp?id=15).

See you all at the next net practice.

The dawn of season 2007................

(Posted On Tue 23 January, 2007)

Its time to dust down that trusty blade, apply liberally with linseed oil (and electricians tape), rub on ralgex/deep heat and prepare for battle (you can almost hear Chris Harrison's first injury). Yes, that's right fellow gladiators, the new season is fast approaching and the Sage Cricket Club is delighted to make the following announcements:-

Winter nets start at 11.00 am, Sunday 28th January 2007, at Percy Main CC. The next session takes place at 7.00 p.m., Monday 29th January 2007, at Percy Main CC. Subsequent net sessions will take place every Sunday and Monday, at the same times, until the start of the season. Each session will generally last for 2 hours. As we use a high quality, one lane indoor net, places are limited. We have a full kit bag (and cricket balls) for all to use. Each session costs £1 per person. Contact cricket@sage.com to confirm your attendance.

Congratulations to the following people, who have been unanimously elected to the club management team - David Moodie (captain), Chris Harrison (manager), Andrew Beer (vice captain), Tim Whittles (management team member) and Michael Sherman (management team member). Our thanks go to retiring management team member Mick Foster for all of his help and assistance during the 2006 promotion campaign. We look forward to seeing him at nets, fighting for the title.

A message from our Australian correspondent

(Posted On Tue 19 September, 2006)

Hello from OZ,
I would just like to congratulate you all on getting promotion, that's a top effort lads. Obviously the new management team and intensive training have paid off big style!!

I've been checking your progress every month on the website. Looking at the stats it's obvious that Moodie and Beer have both had blinders with the bat!! 649 runs is a quality effort Andy and averaging 88.4 is typical Moodie, good to see you're still protecting your average with 9 not outs mate.

Bowling wise, great to see Andy Harrison got 20 wickets. That left-arm action was always lethal when bowled on a line and length. 20 wickets for Beer as well, they'll be renaming you Freddie soon!! Plus I've heard all about Deadly 'Derek' Underwood's spin bowling, it's quite ironic that both England and Sage CC both find that wicket taking spin bowler they've been missing.

And you even got Mr Clayson out of retirement as well, nice work.

Sounds like it's been a brilliant summer all round, fine weather, trips to Dublin, days at the races and golf days. Bl00dy typical Sage CC comes to life after I leave!!

Well enjoy your end of season party and let me know who wins the awards, especially the McTernan Cup obviously.

I'm back in Newcastle for 2 weeks at the start of November, so hopefully I'll see some of you for a few pints at some point. And then it's 2 months off travelling around Australia going to every Ashes Test Match for Vanessa and I, can't wait it's going to amazing.

Take care and say hello to everyone.
Andrew McTernan

Steven Rogers bids farewell to Sage Ltd but not Sage CC

(Posted On Tue 12 September, 2006)

Steven Rogers, one of the original Sage cricketers, is leaving for pastures new (although if he thinks he is getting out of winter nets as easily as that...........).

Steve has contributed every season to the cause, ready and willing with his banana like away swing. He is always available to practise and play (something that all of the captains he has played under continue to appreciate) and the odd tantrum (always mad with himself!) demonstrate how much it all means.

Friday 6th October, Three Mile, for a send off.

End of season league awards

(Posted On Fri 8 September, 2006)

The end of season league meeting and awards evening took place last night at Gateshead Fell C.C.

All teams were well represented at the meeting* and it was good to meet up with a few old foes, throw down challenges for next season and gloat a little.

Not only did Sage pick up the trophy for promotion to division 3 (and 15 individual trophies), we also picked up awards for the most man of the match nominations (Andy Beer with 4 and David Moodie with 4) and a trophy for the century club (David Moodie 100* against Mitford).

We had over 25 people play for the team in league games this season and unfortunately that means everyone can't receive an individual award. To make it fair, the 15 trophies will be distributed on a 'number of league games played' basis. This means the following fifteen people can collect their award from David Moodie's desk (Sage 5 Level 2) from 1.30 p.m. this afternoon:-

Andy Clayson
Andy Beer
Chris Hawley
David Moodie
Gareth Underwood
Andy Harrison
Matthew Kershaw
Chris Harrison
Graeme Houghton
Deepak Kumar
Steven Rogers
John Evans
Mick Sherman
Tim Whittles
Stuart Lang

Even though there are only 15 trophies to give away, everyone of the 25 plus people who played for the team this season, made their mark and did their bit.

Let's hope next season is as successful.

* Only 3 people from Sage could be bothered to get off their ar*e last night and attend the meeting, a very poor turnout indeed. Many thanks to Tim Whittles, David Moodie and Mick Sherman who did make the effort.
