A history of....... Established in 1997, the Sage cricket club is drawn from employees of Sage (UK) Limited. The club complies with and is funded by the Sage CSR (corporate social responsibility) policy, in addition to weekly match fees from the players themselves. The club is a social team providing coaching, training and opportunities for all Sage employees, irrespective of shape, size, age or talent, to play cricket. Following start-up, the team was promoted in successive years to division two of the midweek league, and has also reached league cup finals. Recent years has seen a decline in fortunes and interest. However, 2007 saw a dramatic improvement in the running of the club, its funding and organisation resulting in a dramatically improved playing strength of over 25 players. This resulted in the club gaining promotion in season 2006 to division 3. Initially the club played at Newcastle City’s facility, however, for the last four years we have been made to feel extremely welcome at the far superior, and superb facilities of Percy Main CC. In addition to the midweek league the club has continued a tradition of annual cricket tours, last year travelling to Dublin (even winning our first ever international match against Pheonix CC of Dublin).p> Traditions are an important part of the club and no Sage season would be complete without the Inter Sage cricket challenge match. This match sees Sage’s Newcastle headquarters split into two camps, pitted against each other in hard fought encounters for bragging rights and the Challenge trophy For the first time, the club played a full fixture list of weekend friendly matches, in season 06. If your club is interested in arranging a friendly for 2007, please contact cricket@sage.com. The club now has a management team (who may all be contacted via cricket@sage.com) who are committed to delivering a full coaching & practice timetable, a full social calendar and of course participation in the midweek league and friendly fixtures.
