CCC Century Sensation Smashes SAGE

(Posted On Thu 6 August, 2015)

8 man SAGE found themselves on the receiving end of another spectacular Hassan century at Felling CC last night.

Coming in at #3 in the second over he blasted 100 before being run out off the final ball of the innings. The knock included a six into the cemetery across the road. Next highest scorer Xohaib retired hurt on 28 as CCC amassed 160-3 from 12 overs.

SAGE also batted well, getting to 94-7 (all out) in 11.7 overs. Ahmed was pick of the bowlers with 2-14 from 2.7 overs, and there were wickets for Guy, Phil, and Omar as for the first time CCC achieved all 11 points on offer.

Team: Ian, Xohaib, Hassan, Mohsin, Peter (w/k), Omar, Ahmed, Simon E, Guy, Phil W, Tony

CCC Ease Past Over Eager EAGA

(Posted On Wed 10 June, 2015)

CCC progressed to the second round of the Plate competition with a convincing win against unbeaten Division 4 team EAGA Old Boys at Seaton Burn on Monday. EAGA presented a professional impression with names and numbers on their shirts, a pre-match team talk, and the batting order on a white board in their changing room, but they were made to look amateurish as CCC eased to 124-4 from 14 overs. Alan Fletcher top scored with 44 not out, while Arif hit a quick fire 22. In response Ru took three early wickets to immediately wreck EAGA's chances. Phil, Guy and Arif all chipped in with wickets, and CCC debutant Adam Holroyd took three catches behind the stumps as the home side finished on 66-7.

Team: Alan, Adam (w/k), Ian, Peter, Arif, Phil E, Ru, Simon E, Guy, Andy H, Phil

CCC win first league game

(Posted On Thu 4 June, 2015)

A superb bowling and fielding performance saw 9 man CCC overcome a useful Corinthians side at sunbathed Felling last night. It was a new look side that took to the field, featuring Ian and Tony (ex-ORPS), Hassan and Ahmed (ex-GEMS), and Arif (ex-Marine College).

CCC batted first with Hassan and Arif providing a solid start. Scoring wasn't fast as the pitch offered something for the bowlers with movement off the seam, and the outfield was deceptively slow. Hassan scored a well-timed 34, accelerating at the right point, and helped in particular by Ahmed (20).

The total of 76-6 (12 overs) looked easily within Corinthians grasp, but they too found scoring a challenge. This was down to high quality bowling from Guy, new boy Tony Glover, along with Hassan and Ahmed from the Heworth End. Their excellent spells were backed up by faultless fielding with diving stops and haf stops saving about 20 runs, and excellent catches from Phil and Andy Holburn. Phil also engineered a run out when Corinthians were approaching the desperation stakes. Although Hoole hit 34 no one else was able to hit the ball off the wicket and once he went it was CCCs to lose. A fine final over from Hassan left the visitors three runs short on 73-5. Tony took MOM for a superb spell taking 2-13.

A fine start to the season (on 3rd June!) and clear indication that CCC have enough to be a competitive side, especially when they field a full team!

Team: Hassan, Arif, Ian Tew, Simon E (w/k), Guy, Andy H, Ahmed, Phil W, Tony

Sparta Left out in the Cold

(Posted On Fri 21 June, 2013)

With shades of Tottenham vs. West Ham from a few seasons ago CCC were struck down by a bout of mysterious food poisoning on the eve of Monday night’s fixture against ÓðÜñôá! Rumors that landlady and all round good egg Susan from South North has eloped with James Mooney under a cloud of suspicion are yet to be substantiated. Alan however has promised to buy gold bats and bespoke whites for the club on the back of the suspected settlement he is likely to gain from suing South North cricket club.

On a sunny but cool evening in Heaton I reluctantly agreed to play 16 overs, won the toss and elected to bat.

We had the pleasure of having Nick back in our ranks but having not swung a bat in anger in almost two years decided to go with our regular formula. Alan and I opened on what proved to be a difficult surface to score from and duly made a slow start. Just as we were getting going however Alan was out in the unluckiest of manners. I smoked (first ball I had timed!) a straight drive only for it to ricochet off the bowler in a pretty feeble attempt at a catch and crash into the stumps leaving a backing-up Alan some two feet short of his ground. Nicco then entered the fold and injected real impetus into the attack, taking the game to Sparta playing his shots from the off. I then started to score more freely as we began to build a platform. Nicco holed out after not quite catching one flush which brought the welcome return of Nick to the crease. After a slightly rusty start by his standards he proved that form is temporary but class is permanent. I was bowled after a little partnership with Nick leaving Simon to take up the reins. A little like Nick he took a little while to find the middle of the bat but when he did he propelled us up towards a ton with some much needed boundaries. Nick was out caught looking to push on leaving Greg and then Guy to add a few more quick runs in the dying overs finishing on 117.

A solid fielding and bowling display followed which was just what was required considering the modest total off 16 overs. Nicco and Guy opened from either end with Alan and Matty providing ample support as the change. In reality none of the batsmen really caused many problems other than their opener Roe who eventually top scored with 36, Alan eventually dispatching him with the ‘one that goes straight on’! Although they were in touching distance by the penultimate over we were right into the tail thanks to Alan with 4, Nicco 2 and Guy 1. Guy had the responsibility of bowling the last over with them requiring 13 however any nerves were instantly dispelled when Guy removed the middle stump of their tenth and final man. Other highlights included two smart catches from Jared and an excellent run out that saw a combination of Guy’s tenacity and pace and Nicco’s superb arm.

Back to winning ways and still top of the league, roll on next week.

Cap – Simon W’s brisk runs

Duck – Jared’s catch avoidance, urinating in the shrubbery and defacing the scorebook with sour cream.

Roger – subs dropped off in full less 1 debutant.

Corinthian Casualties

(Posted On Fri 21 June, 2013)

CCC cruised to a moral victory over Corinthians last night however moral is all it was as we slipped to our only our second league defeat of the season. Having a little under a fortnight ago sportingly agreeing to rearrange the fixture as Corinthians could not raise a side we took to field with only 9 men and duly lost to Corinthians full compliment. To rub salt in the wounds 4 of their side were non-regulars one of whom turned up decked out in is full county tracksuit.

Knowing we had only 9 men I persuaded my opposite number to reluctantly agree to only playing 12 overs on the premise that there was rain forecast, despite only being days away from the longest day of the year. I won the toss and decided to have a bat.

Alan and I opened and Corinthians tossed the ball to none other than the shagged-haired teen in the County tracksuit. I proceeded to flounder against him whilst I'm pleased to say Alan found runs at the other end. His short but explosive innings came to an end and brought Nicco to the crease. Sadly his presence lasted just one delivery and was run out from the non-strikers end. Simon E trotted out to join me and proceeded to play an attacking innings with a range of shots that even gave third man a rest! After a few comedic runs between us Si and I began to build an innings and the runs finally started to come from my bat too. Si’s free-flowing innings finally came to an end for an excellent 31 which saw the introduction of Guy (meep meep!). He and I added several quick ones and twos, Guy scoring off every delivery. I shanked a short ball to cover to depart on 35 to allow Guy to put poor Greg through the ringer in the final overs. We finished on 103 which off 12 overs was a defendable score.

In reality we were probably a bowler light so needed our recognised bowlers to bowl tight spells. Sadly the tone was set in the very first over of their innings with Guy going for 15. This theme continued with Nicco struggling to find his line and length initially. A change brought a wicket with Matty taking first blood off what I think even he would describe was minging full toss. Alan offered the change at the other end and although he took a couple of wickets, including a smart caught and bowled, it’s fair to say his spell was a mixed bag. Nicco came back to bowl his third and final over which was greatly improved from his first two and reaped the benefit by clean bowling their no. 4. We toiled away but with the start they had we were going to need to bowl them all out to stand a chance. The knocked with off with a couple of overs to go, just before Gerry got is moment in the sun, well white cloud anyway!

Until next time………………..

Cap – Simon E’s knock (and scoring a boundary in front of square!)

Duck – Me running Nicco out* *see Kev* and a mis-field off Guy’s bowling.

Roger – subs dropped off in full less Guy owing £2
