Corinthian Casualties

(Posted On Fri 21 June, 2013)

CCC cruised to a moral victory over Corinthians last night however moral is all it was as we slipped to our only our second league defeat of the season. Having a little under a fortnight ago sportingly agreeing to rearrange the fixture as Corinthians could not raise a side we took to field with only 9 men and duly lost to Corinthians full compliment. To rub salt in the wounds 4 of their side were non-regulars one of whom turned up decked out in is full county tracksuit.

Knowing we had only 9 men I persuaded my opposite number to reluctantly agree to only playing 12 overs on the premise that there was rain forecast, despite only being days away from the longest day of the year. I won the toss and decided to have a bat.

Alan and I opened and Corinthians tossed the ball to none other than the shagged-haired teen in the County tracksuit. I proceeded to flounder against him whilst I'm pleased to say Alan found runs at the other end. His short but explosive innings came to an end and brought Nicco to the crease. Sadly his presence lasted just one delivery and was run out from the non-strikers end. Simon E trotted out to join me and proceeded to play an attacking innings with a range of shots that even gave third man a rest! After a few comedic runs between us Si and I began to build an innings and the runs finally started to come from my bat too. Si’s free-flowing innings finally came to an end for an excellent 31 which saw the introduction of Guy (meep meep!). He and I added several quick ones and twos, Guy scoring off every delivery. I shanked a short ball to cover to depart on 35 to allow Guy to put poor Greg through the ringer in the final overs. We finished on 103 which off 12 overs was a defendable score.

In reality we were probably a bowler light so needed our recognised bowlers to bowl tight spells. Sadly the tone was set in the very first over of their innings with Guy going for 15. This theme continued with Nicco struggling to find his line and length initially. A change brought a wicket with Matty taking first blood off what I think even he would describe was minging full toss. Alan offered the change at the other end and although he took a couple of wickets, including a smart caught and bowled, it’s fair to say his spell was a mixed bag. Nicco came back to bowl his third and final over which was greatly improved from his first two and reaped the benefit by clean bowling their no. 4. We toiled away but with the start they had we were going to need to bowl them all out to stand a chance. The knocked with off with a couple of overs to go, just before Gerry got is moment in the sun, well white cloud anyway!

Until next time………………..

Cap – Simon E’s knock (and scoring a boundary in front of square!)

Duck – Me running Nicco out* *see Kev* and a mis-field off Guy’s bowling.

Roger – subs dropped off in full less Guy owing £2
