CCC Return to East End to beat West End

(Posted On Wed 8 May, 2013)

Well done to the lads on what was another great win over West End last night, making back to back wins and a 100% start to the new season.

I lost the toss and West End decided to bat on what was described by the grounds-man himself as “a pretty awful wicket”!

Ru set the tone instantly by dismissing their opener for a diamond! Guy opened from the other end, whilst Nicco’s spikes were in transit (I kid you not), and bowled an impressive spell right through. The pick being a slower yorker that bamboozled one of their top order batsmen who looked to club him out the park only to be clean bowled. Nicco chipped in with a couple of overs and a wicket once his sartorial difficulties were overcome. Nicco and Guy then made way for some spin at both ends. Dan picked up where he left off last week ripping it square leaving flying bails in his wake. Matty had the tricky task of bowling with the short boundary but with one left hander in someone had to do it. He took some inevitable tap but was rewarded with a wicket. Ru came back on to finish the job and finish with a haul of 4 wickets and had West End all out for a chase-able 88.

Nicco and I opened and made a reasonable start, Nicco flashing a lofted straight drive back over the bowlers head for four. However the pitch was slow and the uneven bounce made it very difficult to score. A top edge resulted in Nicco being caught comfortably in the end by the keeper off the looping ball. That brought Si to the crease who struggled to score quickly also and was bowled when trying to up the ante. Alan followed and added some impetus with the runs starting to flow, mainly in quick singles. About halfway through and pretty much up with the rate Alan suffered a similar fate to that of Si. His son got in on the act next hitting some lovely shots and injecting a few more boundaries. With only 3 left to get and 4 and bit overs to go Ru was bowled by pretty decent delivery that stayed a little low. The game was then won when the following delivery whistled to the boundary rope for four byes. All bets on Mooney hitting a six to win were null and void! I carried my bat in what was a pretty turgid innings but enough to see us over the line.

CCC Start With a Win

MITFORD CRUSHED LIKE HELPLESS INSECT UNDER RELENTLESS CCC JUGGERNAUT

CCC got their season off to a perfect start at Mitford on Wednesday with a convincing win against their hosts. Put in to bat CCC totalled 119-6 before totalling the Mitford batting. Debutant James Mooney top scored with 34 and joined a game-changing late partnership with Guy (20 not out). A perfect fielding performance followed as Mitford were steam-rollered for 73, with debutant Dan Scott taking 5-7, including a hat trick, and affecting a stunning diving catch on the boundary similar to (but actually better than) Murali Vijay's mid-off effort for CSK the following evening. Three wickets for Guy and two for Ru helped wrap up a 10 point opening.

CCC Retain Slim Chance of Promotion

(Posted On Thu 16 August, 2012)

At Belmont Community Centre on Tuesday CCC seemed to be suffering a hangover from their league cup exit the night before - not literal of course, thanks to the Black Bull, Matfen. Belmonte found themselves racking up 50 odd for 1 in the 5th over and it looked like a long evening was underway. Somehow CCC woke up and tight spells from Ru and Guy put us back in contention so that after 12 overs the home side was 105-4. Nico came back after an interesting first spell to bowl the 13th over and took 3-1, then Matty bowled over number 14 and took an all bowled hat trick to reduce Belmonte to to 110 all out.

CCC's response began as ungainly as the first innings with Nico out first ball and Jared to the fourth leaving us 0-2 after one over. Peter (33) and Alan (35) then batted superbly with a partnership of 60 odd to put us within striking distance. With more than a run a ball still required Zac and Simon hit a few quick boundaries, and Ru and Guy saw us home with some scampered singles. The game finished at 9 in almost pitch darkness.

Special thanks go to Zac and Nicky for completing the XI at short notice. It's doubtful that 9 players would have won on that ground.

Chris, Peter, Jared, Alan, Zac, Simon E, Greg, Ru, Guy, Matty, Nicky
