Blue Flames win the Merz & McLellan Cup

The President’s XI skipper Ross Symington elected to bat on the drought stricken strip and opener Dan Keegan persisted with 40. Jaswinder Singh contributed a characteristic 48 batting at 4, however the side were dismissed for a below par 139 by the 29th over with five Blue Flames sharing the wickets. Most economical was Shahnawaz Awan with 2-11 off his 4 overs.

Blue Flames started badly with Ehsan Humais taking 4-33 including three keeper catches by Desai. After 3 overs, Flames were 10-4. However, old Flame Javed Mirza came to the rescue with a hard hitting 53 not out. He was supported by 30 from Sultan Zeb and 52 not out from Zohaib Shahid as Flames recovered quickly to reach a winning 143-5 in only the 17th over.

League President Malcolm Kennedy CBE presented the Merz & McLellan Cup and thanked Bates for the arrangements and teas, the umpires Peter Woodley and Steve Ransome and the scorers.
