Mitford Boars History
Cooksons joined the North East Midweek Friendly Cricket League in 1982 and entered the newly formed 3rd Division. With one "Saturday" cricketer, the legendary Alan Docherty, it took until August for our first victory. Over the next twenty one years Cooksons has played in each of the five divisions and were losing cup finalists in 1991. Cooksons still hold the record for the greatest team victory in the cup -
209-1 v Merz & McLellan 50ao (16 overs), victory by 159 runs. (Assisted by 2 antipodean friends ex Backworth!)
In 2007, following a difficult period when new blood was needed to keep the team going the addition of a number of players form Mitford led to the team changing its name to the Mitford Boars and moving to its current home ground of Mitford Park.
