Oceans in dramatic last over defeat

(Posted On Wed 25 June, 2014)

Oceans: 168/8 (Gopal 74, Ali 36)
Aletasters 170/4 (M.Kim 71) Dave:3-0-39-3

Oceans were involved in another nailbiter of a game last night against the Aletasters but on this occasion were beaten by the finest of margins.Aletasters won the toss and elected to field in a 16 overs per side game. Gopal and Ali were the two major contributors to the total with some flawless hitting and clever rotation. Gopal made a career best 74 and looked in imperious form which is a great sign for the forthcoming games.Ali rotated cleverly and these two men put on a hundred for the second wicket after the loss of Naveen earlier. Oceans middle and lower order chipped in with a few and at the end of the 16 overs finished on 168/8.

Having been confident at the halfway stage Oceans did not expect a comeback due to their powerful bowling attack but how wrong did that prove. Both Aletasters openers looked aggressive and maintained the run rate throughout the innings. One of their openers appeared to play at a higher level and it showed with the strokes he played. Oceans bowlers plugged away but were never able to apply pressure consistently from any end. Their opener who went off injured after being struck in the face attempting a shot came back to the crease towards the end with his team needing 11 of the last over. Oceans had a real sniff and were well in with a chance when the dangerous Kim was ran out by a superb bit of fielding from Gopal. However with the equation being 4 needed of 2 balls, there opening batsman hit a huge six of wally's penultimate ball to end proceedings and in the consequences end Oceans unbeaten league start to the season.

Sweet revenge for Oceans

(Posted On Tue 24 June, 2014)

Genetics:
68/8 (14 ovs) Wally 4-1-19-2, Rian 3-1-6-2
Oceans:
70/3 (9.6 ovs) Sonu Pathak 24 not out

Oceans CC who were eliminated by Genetics in the cup got there revenge in the league fixture last night as they completely bossed the game from the start. Genetics were put into bat in a 14over game. Oceans produced possibly there best bowling display of the season and it was difficult to pick out the most outstanding bowler as they all contributed in troubling the opposition to great effect. Wally, Naveen, Dave and Rian were simply unplayable at times and far too good and astute for the genetics batsmen. Kurt must also be given a special mention for his brilliant wicketkeeping and unlucky stumping.
In reply, Oceans were ruthless as openers Usman who had earlier dislocated his finger after attempting a catch and Naveen put on 26 inside 3 overs. They did however lose a little flurry of wickets but the skipper who has been in sublime form this season played a sensible innings of 24 not out and Simon who was knocking it around intelligently saw the team home in the tenth over.

Man of the match: Sonu

Oceans destroy Sparta

(Posted On Thu 19 June, 2014)

Sparta: 40 all out (9.5 balls). Naveen 4-0-14-5
Oceans 43/3 (4 overs) Wally 17, Naveen 13.

Oceans CC maintained there excellent unbeaten start to the season against a somewhat depleted Sparta side. Sparta won the toss and elected to bat in a 14 over match. Naveen was the star of the show taking his first five wicket hall and dismantling Sparta for a shocking 40 all out. Sparta never had any partnerships at any stage and constantly kept losing wickets. In reply, Oceans decided to send their big hitters at the top of the order and aimed to get the total inside 4 overs. This they duly did as both Naveen and Wally kept hitting the boundaries. Oceans did lose a few wickets in pursuit of the target inside four overs and thankfully Gopal hit the last ball of the fourth over to seal Oceans first maximum points of the season.

Man of the match: Naveen

Oceans victorius in thrilling run chase.

(Posted On Wed 18 June, 2014)

Northstar: 183/5 (22 overs) Kurt 4-0-24-3
Oceans: 186/5 (21.4) Ali 45, Sonu 37

Oceans CC played Northstar in a friendly match at Cowgate last night and it proved a real run feast with Oceans winning in the end with a ball to spare.
Northstar, elected to bat first in a 22 0vers per side match. There openers played very aggressively and calculated at times as they put a 100 run stand in opening 12 overs. Kurt somewhat led a mini recovery by bowling excellently and started to drag things back slowly for Oceans. Northstar finished on 183/5 off there 22 overs with Kurt taking three wickets.

This challenging total did not seem to bother the Oceans batsman as what was to come was a breathtaking run chase. Naveen opened the batting and scored a rapid 20 hitting 5 fours. When he was unluckily runout Oceans were 40/2 from 4 overs. for the next 6 overs Sonu took the game to the opposition in devastating fashion. he hit four sixes on his way to 37 off 14 balls and was well supported by ali. When Sonu perished, Oceans were right in the game at 85/3 from 9 overs. Ratty and then ali accumulated very sensibly and intelligently keeping the score ticking along nicely and never letting the run rate increase. This was a brilliant partnership of 55 and really gave Oceans the platform to end on a high. Ali occasionally took the risk and it paid dividends. Ratty went for a well played 15 and Oceans were on 137/4 from 16 overs. The equation was 50 need of 36 balls and six wickets in hand. Simon looked good before getting one that kept low and wally foolishly ran out ali who made a brilliant 45. Oceans nipped away at the target with constant rotation and clever running between the wickets. They required 10 off the final over and after kurt took a single off the first ball, Wally pathan made up for this earlier error by hitting two massive sixes with one ball to spare. The Oceans players were jubilant as wally ran off to their direction. Northstar were left shell shocked at what they had witnessed but they must also be applauded as it was a great game.

Oceans maintain 100 per cent record

(Posted On Wed 11 June, 2014)

Oceans CC vs CCC at Felling CC

CCC 77/5 (14 overs)
Oceans 78/4 (9.5) Sonu Pathak 22 not out, Dave 15.

Oceans CC maintained there excellent unbeaten league start to the campaign against an 8 man CCC team who just didn't have the personnel. CCC batted first and were thwarted by some very disciplined bowling and excellent fielding by Oceans. They limped their way to 77/5 off their 14 overs with Rian, Dave, Naveen and Gulam in impressive form. In reply Oceans lost their power hitting opener Wally without troubling the scorers. Dave kept his head and played sensibly and when CCC might have thought there was a sniff of a chance when Rian and Simon departed in quick succession, Sonu played a captains knock to really deflate the opposition. He hit three successive boundaries and carried his bat to a well deserved 22 not out. Oceans reached their target with the loss of only four wickets in the tenth over.
