A week's a long time in cricket

(Posted On Mon 17 August, 2009)

Park House's fixtures against Hylton and Sparta showed them at their best and most unlucky last week.
Away to Hylton the game ended in a thrilling tie with both teams playing in a competative but excellent spirit. Outstanding performance from Tony Gilchrist who took 6 wickets and to coin a much overused phrase really did step up to the cheeseboard by bowling in the right areas. Maybe the pressure on his place because of the form of his younger brother was the incentive required ! Well played too Mr Cricket Ian Hearn for a fine 40 not out
Team : Dawson,Dawson,Dures,Crowe,Gilchrist,Hearn, Bandeen,Pearce,Reader,Dunn,Gardner.

PHCC didn't have too far to travel in their game against Sparta. Bowling fist PHCC showed grit and determination through a fine bowling and fielding performance stand in skipper Bandeen taking 2 fine catches. The batting though never responded and in spite of a fine captains knock from Bandeen PHCC finished some way short. Still the company in the bar after more than made up for it ! Keep the spirit Park House !

Blasts from the Past

(Posted On Sat 8 August, 2009)

At last a glorious summer's day and an exciting game played in the right spirit to match.
Batting first, skipper Dawson rolled back the years with an impressive display of strokeplay which reduced the opposition, at times, to tatters as they simply couldn't bowl to him. He was well supported by Ian Hearne, Stu Jackson and Dave Crowe. Surely, it can be no coincidence that Croweman's new training regime and conversion to the temperance movement have led to such an improvement in his game ? Park House closed their innings on 161.
If the batting brought back memories then the bowling was nothing more than all our yesterdays. Turning his arm over for the first time in many a year, Bandeen senior showed all the craft and guile of slow medium bowling with a nifty run out to boot. He was well supported by Bandeen junior who bowled a steady 5 overs too. In spite of this CCC ran out winners by 6 wickets.
Finally a special mention to Liam Jackson who made his debut and Jenny Bandeen who did a magnificent job serving refreshments.
Next game Hylton away 10/8, Sparta home 13/8.
Team : Dawson, Dawson, Jackson, Jackson, Bandeen, Bandeen, Gardner, Gilchrist, Dures, Crowe, Hearn.

Bullocks at Bullocksteads

(Posted On Sat 8 August, 2009)

With the game at Hylton being called off the previous week, Park House went into their league clash at Bullocksteads against Oceans with a full team. With skipper Dawson absent due to 'flu stand his stand in started off poorly by calling wrong at the toss and then suffering in the field as Oceans posted an impressive 160.
Full credit to the young bowlers Peter Bandeen and Danny Gilchrist who refused to wilt under the strain of big hitting from the Ocean batsmen. Well played too Keith Reeder who demonstrated the virtues of a good line and length.
Ian Hearne led the reply with a fine display of proper cricketing shots all around the wicket but Park House were unable to maintain any momentum and finished some way short on 86.
Team: Hearn, Jackson, Crowe, Dunn, Cawthra, Dures, Gardner, Bandeen, Bandeen, Reeder, Gilchrist.

Young Guns Go For It !

(Posted On Tue 28 July, 2009)

A ring rusty Park House were beaten in a close encounter at Belmont. Skipper Dawson had picked a team well balanced in terms of youth and experience. With a squad of 15 to pick from, he has thrown down the challenge for all players to justify their selection. Competition has never been tougher for places.

Batting first against some varied bowling, Ian Hearn showed why he is the club's leading run scorer with a quality knock of 31. All the other batsmen struggled on a good wicket and PHCC innings closed on 79.

Reeder opened the bowling and demonstrated the value of common sense line and length bowling; he was very unlucky to end wicketless. However step forward the youngest team members Gilchrist (D) and Bandeen (P) - not afraid to give the ball plenty of flight and loop both bowled very well and deserved their wickets. If they can listen and learn from the senior team members both have a chance of leading the attack for many years to come. Watch out Tony G, your brother is out to claim your place !

Next stop Hylton.

Team: Hearn, Jackson, Gardner, Pollard, Dawson (J), Gilchrist (T), Bandeen (P), Bandeen(PC), Reeder, Gilchrist (D)
