On another baking hot day at Pont the 'Eagles' looked to win back to back matches in the NEMWL for the first time. Losing the toss against the Black Widows they unsurprisingly opted to bat first. A combination of poor calling for a quick single and the reactions of "Ponteland's top fielder" two time Roy Storer Fielding Trophy winner Jonny Appleby saw an easy run-out off just the second ball of Keith Crerar's opening over. Two balls later Chris Barlow took a catch at a deeper than normal mid-off to leave the innings in tatters after just four balls. Crerar then bowled Dunn (4) and Appleby at midwicket added a catch to his collection in Crerar's next (3-17) and when Stuart Taylor (1-7) bowled the number 6, Duhrin (1) the score was 27-5.
Tom Common on his birthday and Andy Denyer bowled the next 4 overs between them and conceded an evenly split 34 as the innings crept above fifty. The partnership was finally broken by Roger Bell with Wall bowled for 21, then moments later Jeffreys was dismissed in the same manner, as Rog's demon offspin also broke the bail! Captain Craig Moffat then dismissed the top scorer A.Dunn (26), again bowled and Bell (3-13) and Moffat (2-8) ended the innings on 87.
Ponteland's openers Appleby and Matty Bell (no relation) started carefully but soon got into their stride, Bell scoring fluently through the off-side with some powerful drives. The target needed to be reached before the end of the 11th over to claim maximum batting points and although both batsman gave chances with skied catches the fielders were unable to take them and the 10 wicket win was duly completed, Bell unbeaten on 42 and Appleby 38.
The opposition voted Keith Crerar as Man of the Match.
The 10 points takes Ponteland up to 41 points in the league and should keep us just behind the top four depending on other results. League Table (last weeks 8 point win over Corinthians is missing from the online table)
