Genetics 103/4 P.McKeever 35 (13.4 overs)
Oceans Man of the Match: Sonu Pathak
Oceans CC were eliminated from the cup this week against a very well organised Genetics outfit. Both these teams contested todays match with the prize at stake being given a entry into the first round proper where City Sharks from the fifth division awaits.
On a glorious day in Benton (Blues Flames), Genetics won the toss and decided to put Oceans into bat in a 14 overs match. Oceans CC put a lethargic effort with the bat with only the brilliance of the captain Sonu saving a complete capitulation. The first four batsman perished very quickly inside 7 overs and only Rian 13 got into double figures. Genetics bowled very intelligently and bowled beautifully to their field. After coming to the crease on 37/4 off 7.0 overs and losing more wickets thereafter, Sonu decided to take matters into his own hands by striking some lusty blows but with an element of safety. He was ably supported by Mudassar and Oceans with the help of these two batsman posted 101/8 off their 14 overs.
In reply Genetics got their start off to a positive start unlike Oceans and safely negotiated the first 6 overs for 47 runs without the loss of any wickets. Oceans did threaten at times to claw their way back into the game with impressive bowling from Dave and Rian in particular. Genetics toyed with their opponents and won the match with 5 balls to spare and 6 wickets in hand. However, the Oceans bowlers should deserve credit for sticking to their task.
