Oceans CC won their second game of the season last night against Genetics at Felling CC. In a game that was played 35 overs per side, Oceans batted first and recorded a formidable 246 all out in 34.2 overs. This was a tremendous effort by the Oceans batsman. Usman was very aggressive at the start and scored a rapid 19. Oceans did lose some momentum after losing the next couple of wickets cheaply. However, Oceans regained control of the match in two crucial partnerships. Firstly, Rian 72 and skipper Sonu 71 shared a stand of 90 runs and both batsman looked in fine touch which is a great sign for the forthcoming season. When Rian perished, Ratty who scored a cool and calm 18 shared a 53 run partnership with the skipper to completely put the game out of reach of the opposition. Oceans were not quite finished when both batsman were dismissed. Naveen played a quickfire 25 against a tiring attack and it finished off a wonderful batting performance.
In reply, Genetics tried valiantly and were very determined to bat the whole overs. Although they were never threatening at any stage to cause an upset they must be given credit for their fighting spirit. The Oceans bowlers had a really good workout. Naveen, Rian, Gulam and the skipper who decided to bowl himself were particularly impressive. In the end, Genetics finished on 155/9 from their 35 overs.
