Oceans played their first game of the season last night in Felling against Matrix Barbarians in a friendly match which was reduced to 17 overs per side. The bowlers were particularly impressive through out by keeping the Matrix batsman at bay and presenting very few scoring opportunities. All the bowlers were threatening throughout with wally, gulam and naveen impressive. They restricted the Barbarians to 78 all out from their 17 overs. However, a lot of this was down to a quite stunning catch by ratty who got rid of dangerman dan clark in spectacular fashion.
In reply the Oceans batsman made a disastrous started losing first four wickets for 16 runs from 6 overs. However, experience campaigners Ratty and skipper Sonu put a crucial fifth wicket partnership of 42 runs by playing sensibly and intelligently. When Sonu had perished for 14, Wally entered the field and scored a quick fire 15 to wrap up the match with the loss of no more wickets and with 2 overs still to spare. Ratty remained unbeaten on 26 not out and in the end it was a deserved victory for Oceans despite some early scares.
