In a tight match at Heaton, Genetics were defeated by Fenham by 8 runs. Batting first, Fenham punished some short bowling by Chris Mee who went for 31 in his first 2 overs. He came back well in his last over, and took 2 wickets, one of them caught by Grant Mason in the outfield, who managed to knock himself out as he landed awkwardly. Down to 10 men in the field (where was Gareth?) Genetics struggled to contain the scoring and Fenham managed to amass 122 in their 16 overs. Brian Taylor was the best of the bowlers with 2 for 21 in his 4 overs. In reply, Gardner (26) and Porteous (20) started brightly, but the bowling was tight, and when the wickets started to fall, they tumbled with alarming regularity. Mike Cole managed to deflect a high pitched delivery into his face, resulting in 4 stitches in his chin. Raj Rihal made a solid 24 to hold the innings together, and there were 13 runs and 2 wickets in the final over, adding to the excitement but Fenham ran out winners.
