Could this be another fantastic Cup run? Could this year be the year we finally lift the world famous North East Midweek Cricket knock-out cup? The answer to both these question is no, but that didn't stop a glorious win to Genetics over higher placed opposition Paddlers. It didn't help the Paddlers' cause by only turning up with 9 players. Paddlers won the toss and sent Genetics in to bat. Andy Porteous made a handy 12, and then Deon came in and although he was not batting to his usual high standards, still made a very good 42. Chris Mee contributed a polished 18, and Mark Buckley provided an invaluable 16 not out at the close. After 14 overs, Genetics had made a very handy 126 for 6. Just like the week before, Chris Mee bowled a very tight first over, taking a very valuable wicket, that of the Paddlers captain Chris Roberts, who later said, "It was one of the best balls I ever faced, an absolute pearler, totally unplayable!!!". I think he's been secretly taking lessons in excuses from Mike Gardner. After that, they were never in the hunt, thanks to tight bowling from Chris, and also Brian Taylor. We also witnessed one of the catches of the season from Mark Buckley after the ball was skied to him in the outfield. I think the batsmen ran 3 while they were waiting for the ball to descend from the heavens. There were also good caught and bowled wickets for Davy Heslop and Chris Mee, and in the end Paddlers were 24 runs shy.
