Three tuns edge out Oceans in exciting match

(Posted On Fri 10 June, 2011)

Oceans CC lost their third game of the season last night against Three tuns after one stage lokking the clear favourites. Ratty won the toss and elected to bat first on a nice summer's day. Oceans made a very competitive score off 150/8 from their 16 overs. Rian (52), Imran (27) and Ratty (17 not out) were the major contributors to the Oceans total. Rian and Imran shared an opening stand of 70 with both players playing exceedingly well. Oceans then suffered a middle order collapse and at were one stage 106/6 from 13 overs. However, the skipper played quite beautifully along with some big hits from Wally gave Oceans an excellent score of 150 from their 16 overs. In reply, the tuns openers came out blazing. They enjoyed huge luck early as their bit hitting opener was clearly out twice caught and some poor bowling along the way helped tuns chase down the total in the 14th over. Only Rian bowled well returning with 4/40 off his 4 overs. Three tuns finally finished on 151/5 off 13.3 balls.

Parkhouse make Oceans sweat

(Posted On Sat 21 May, 2011)

A very below par performance from Oceans nearly led to an early exit to Parkhouse this week in the Sadler Brown cup. Parkhouse won the toss and elected to bat first, they posted a challenging score of 137/5 off their 14 overs with I Hearn scoring a patient 68. However, like the previous game, he was helped by some very ordinary bowling and poor fielding display. In reply, Oceans appeared to be coasting with both Arsalan (47) and Sonu (55) putting an excellent stand of 90. However a flurry of wickets towards the end provided an exciting finish. Ali played very calmly and hit a six and four to settle the match in the final over. No doubt again, the bowling was poor and Oceans must quickly put this right or else will be suffering a lot more misery this season.

Ratty: We didnt turn up

(Posted On Tue 10 May, 2011)

The captain has today spoken about the defeat against Sage last night,'We started the game very badly, and never looked like crawling back into it from then on in. Apart from Asman who I thought was superb, the rest of the bowlers need to take a real hard look at themselves. They gave far too many opportunities for the opposition to score freely and then when we created opportunity we simply could not take it. We couldnt catch anything all night and even if we played all night we wouldnt have grabbed anything. It was a really poor bowling and fielding effort from the team. Their opener played well, but he really should have been back in the hut long before and that really cost us the game. We have to improve in these areas otherwise it will be a long hard season.

The captain later payed tribute to his team for fighting to the very end,'Even though they scored a big total, it was easily manageable. There was a short boundary and we were too late in taking adavantage of it. I thought we lost our way in the middle order. We should have built a partnership but lost three wickets quickly for hardly any runs. It was very disappointing indeed. I have to give credit to Javed for a superb effort and while I was there in the middle with him, we decided to take it into the final two overs and that's what we did. I was happy with the way we fought and it shows that their is a real spirit among our group. To be fair, Sage caught everything all night so full credit to them, they deserved to win.

Khan is quickly looking forward to his team to refocus,'Well, we are hurt but I rather we produce such a performance early in the season. We have to learn our lessons very quickly because there is no doubt that the quality has gone up a level. We know where we went wrong and are hoping to put things right in future games'.

Oceans suffer first loss

(Posted On Tue 10 May, 2011)

Oceans CC lost their first game of the season last night against Sage at Percy Main. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted a very competitive total of 149/6 off their 14 overs with their opener scoring 96. However, Oceans only have themselves to blame having dropped the same batsman three times and some woeful bowling and fielding effort provided Sage to pose such a total. In reply, Oceans were in deep trouble being 58/5 of 7 overs. Rian played intelligently to make 26. The game appeared to be lost at that stage and enter Javed and Ratty to the crease. Javed hit a swashbuckling 54 of 26 balls and Ratty (16) played an excellent anchor role as Oceans threatened to mount a serious fightback. Both these batsman put a partnership of 75 to swing the match open again. However, needing 18 to win of the final over seemed to much as both Javed and Ratty lost their wickets in chase of sixes. Oceans finally finished on 138/7 off their 14 overs and credit must be given to their batsman who made Sage sweat for their victory.
