Northstar: 183/6 (20 overs)
Oceans: 123/9 Ratty 35, Sonu 33 (17.3 overs)
Oceans CC were comprehensively beaten by divison 5 Northstar in a friendly match played in Cowgate. Northstar batted first and it must have been Christmas coming early for their batsmen as Oceans bowled woefully and with little thought and imagination. They offered over 50 extras and were very wasteful with the new ball.Only Gulam and Rian deserve any credit for stemming the flow of runs.
In reply, Oceans looked a very well beaten side after the first ball of their innings when the dangerous Rian departed without scoring. It did not get any better as another three wickets fell leaving Oceans reeling on 27/4 off 4 overs. However, experienced pair Sonu 33 and Ratty 35 offered some resistance and never allowed a complete capitulation. Oceans finally finished on 123/9 from 17.3 overs.

Scores:
Oceans: 101/8 Sonu 41 (14overs)
Genetics 103/4 P.McKeever 35 (13.4 overs)
Oceans Man of the Match: Sonu Pathak
Oceans CC were eliminated from the cup this week against a very well organised Genetics outfit. Both these teams contested todays match with the prize at stake being given a entry into the first round proper where City Sharks from the fifth division awaits.
On a glorious day in Benton (Blues Flames), Genetics won the toss and decided to put Oceans into bat in a 14 overs match. Oceans CC put a lethargic effort with the bat with only the brilliance of the captain Sonu saving a complete capitulation. The first four batsman perished very quickly inside 7 overs and only Rian 13 got into double figures. Genetics bowled very intelligently and bowled beautifully to their field. After coming to the crease on 37/4 off 7.0 overs and losing more wickets thereafter, Sonu decided to take matters into his own hands by striking some lusty blows but with an element of safety. He was ably supported by Mudassar and Oceans with the help of these two batsman posted 101/8 off their 14 overs.
In reply Genetics got their start off to a positive start unlike Oceans and safely negotiated the first 6 overs for 47 runs without the loss of any wickets. Oceans did threaten at times to claw their way back into the game with impressive bowling from Dave and Rian in particular. Genetics toyed with their opponents and won the match with 5 balls to spare and 6 wickets in hand. However, the Oceans bowlers should deserve credit for sticking to their task.

Oceans CC got their league campaign off to a perfect start by convincingly beating a poor West End team. The home side chose to bat first on a glorious summers day in Heaton. There left handed opener did not appear to read the script and consumed a lot of balls in a painstaking innings. Oceans bowlers consisting of Gulam, Wally, Naveen and Dave bowled intelligently and skilfully on a somewhat tricky wicket. They gave little away and managed to really dictate proceedings from the first to final bowl. West End finished on a below par 88/7 off their 14 overs with Wally 3/26 and Gulam 1/16 off four overs particularly impressive. In reply, Oceans led by a Wally assault made the pitch look very easy to bat on. Wally clubbed three huge sixes on his way to 43 and was ably supported by Rian 12 not out and Simon 20 not out. Oceans finished the game on 91/2 off nine overs and in return achieved ten points in their first league game of the season.
Oceans next travel to play Genetics at Swallwell CC in a preliminary cup game on Monday.

On the eve of the first game of the season against aletasters, oceans go into the game in high confidence after recording three consecutive victories.
Sonu has been delighted by his teams start, he said. We have started really well and showed tremendous character in every match and all I ask is for my team to give their all. In each game we struggled early on in our batting and were in all kinds of trouble but my experienced players like rian, ratty and myself took the challenge on and got the team out of danger.this was well illustrated in the last game against northstar when rian and ratty put a superb partnetship when we were 21/4 and its this kind of fighting quality we will need throughout the the season. I have been delighted with my key batsmen who really stood up in all the three games and its what I expect from them.
the bowlers have also been excellent, the likes of wally, naveen and gulam have a huge role to play this season so I am hoping they will produce the goods in the league matches too. We are all looking forward to the season and I have a good feeling it will be a good one. bn

Oceans CC welcomed Northstar to Felling in what proved to be a real classic of a match. Today's match was a 16 overs a side match and Oceans batted first. Oceans were in deep trouble early on in their innings when then they reduced to 21/4 off 5 overs. They had lost their talismanic skipper early on due to a very good and disciplined effort by the Northstar players who today had several Blue Flames first team players. Oceans were indebted massively to inform pair Ratty and Rian who produced a magnificent match saving partnership of 75 runs in 9 overs. Both players played beautifully and complimented each other well. They looked at ease and really put the pressure back on the bowler. When the flambuoyant Rian had perished when the score was on 97, Wally entered the field and finished the innings in devastating fashion by smashing 15 off 4 balls including two sixes. Oceans finally finished on a competitive 117/6 off their 16 overs (Rian 44, Ratty 28 not out).
In reply, Northstar started very quietly and seemed to be static at the crease. Some fine bowling from Chris and Wally was the ideal tonic that Oceans required. Northstar decided to make a real fist of it when there was six overs remaining and they needed 72 off 6 overs. At times some wayward bowling and few big shots came off for the Northstar batsmen and they managed to get themselves into a position where they needed 14 off 6 balls to the shock of the Oceans players. However, the skipper Sonu had other ideas and decided to bowl the final over of the match. After being hit for six off the first ball, the equation was 8 required of 5 balls. Some magnificent fielding from Mudassar and Wally in particular and some intelligent bowling and calmness from the skipper to run out the Northstar batsman when they needed three of the final ball sealed the deal. Oceans won the match by 2 runs and it was a magnificent end to a match that will be remembered by everyone who played in it and watched it.
