Gez out with injury, Andy off in sympathy

Genetics turned up at Clara Vale in a friendly against Ovingham in the knowledge that two of their most talented players would be missing. It seems that Gez will be out for a few weeks with a knee injury, following on from Eddie's shoulder op. Andy Goulding, suffering from flu, was also unable to take part in the game. It didn't matter though, as Genetics were able to claim vistory as they beat Ovingham by nine wickets. Chris Drought was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, and Chris Mee and G. Taylor (I think that's Gareth but I may be wrong) took 2 each as we bowled out Ovingham for 71. Mike Gardner turned up in time to open the innings and made a classy 38 not out.

League season starts with a win

Genetics turned form on its head with a classy win against old rivals St Teresas at Heaton. Jon Rob opened the innins as Mike Gardner failed to turn up in time, and showed his class with an opportunist's knock of 53 as Genetics made 96-5 in 14 overs. It didn't seem enough but St Teresas were never in the hunt and could only reply with 60-7 in their allotted overs. Chris Mee found himself amongst the wicket takers with figures of 4-0-8-2, while van Doorn grabbed 2 wickets at the close.

Genetics start season with loss in friendly

The season started with a friendly at Close House against Uni Staff who batted first and made 186-9. John Featherstone and Basil Krishnan got 3 wickets each. In reply, we could only muster 158-10, Gez showing net form counts for nothing in making a classy 44 not out.

Training has now started for the 2003 season. We have a block booking at the Wallsend Sports Centre for the next few Sundays from 5:00 to 6:00PM. (Not 5 to 6 Gez). We may be short of players this season so if you have any mates who are handy with the bat or ball, we will make all new players welcome
