The Just Sport Cup Final between holders Kirkwood and the up and coming team from Marine College South Shields was played at Bates Cottages in a reduced 25 off 8 ball overs game owing to the strong winds and with rain threatening later. Kirkwood elected to bat and posted 264-9 with Mohsin Ali 58, Mukhtar Husain 48, Raza Noor 34 and Ravi Jaglan taking 3-52 off 25 8 ball overs.
The start from Kirkwood was explosive with 127 runs coming off the first 10 overs and all the Kirkwood batsmen pressed on quickly; Kamran Mansoor scored 17 and Jaswinder Singh 25 with big shots. The Marine men are to be complemented for sticking to their tasks in the field and runs were stemmed somewhat when the pace was taken off the ball. The wind took its toll and 16 wides added to the score.
Marine College made 154 all out in 19 overs with Man of the Match Richie Crawford taking 5-54. Marine were always behind the stiff asking rate but six batsmen made double figures with top scorer Sharma making 28. The final was well hosted by Bates Cottages with Secretary Norman Baston presenting the awards.
